Approximately 30 minutes northwest of
Washington, D.C. on north side of Potomac River |
| Directions: |
From D.C. get on 495 north towards Silver
Springs, MD. After crossing the Potomac River get off 495 at Carderock exit. Veer left
onto frontage road. Follow signs for Carderock and exit right up ramp. At stop sign make a
left. Veer right after crossing the overpass. Follow road down and left under canal to
stop sign. Turn right and follow road for about 1 mile into the parking area. Park. |
| Approach: |
There are two main approaches to the climbing
areas. The obvious one enters the woods on the south side of the parking lot via the
trail, make a right at the bulletin board, go down the blue blazed trail, and follow the
trail leftward around the rock formations. The less obvious, is to enter the woods from
the west side of the parking lot, follow the trail to the blue blazed connector spur, make
a left and head downhill to meet up with the above mentioned trail at the base of the rock
formations. Total approach time - 10 minutes. |
